Fall 2014 Peer Writing Support Groups sponsored by The Graduate School
Tired of writing in isolation or frustrated with waiting to feel inspired? Regularly scheduled blocks in the company of other motivated writers may be just what you need, whether you’re working on a journal article, a thesis, or a dissertation.
Led by fellow graduate students who are also focused on their own writing, each group will commit to coming together for one three-hour block of time per week. Participants will check in briefly with one another on their weekly goals and progress and then dedicate at least two hours of each session to writing; groups do NOT commit members to reading other people’s work. During scheduled writing time, you are expected to be actively engaged with your specific writing project. You are also expected to write AT LEAST ONE OTHER TIME during the week in order to make progress.
Groups will be limited to around 8 individuals each and space will be assigned on a “first come, first served” basis. The Graduate School will contact you with the day and time for your group based on available space. You will be provided with a distraction-free work environment in Jackson Library and with tools to help you keep track of your writing progress.
Groups will meet for 9 weeks beginning the week of September 15 and running through the week of November 17th. Groups will not meet during the week of Fall Break (Oct. 13-14).
This event is open to currently enrolled UNCG Graduate Students.
Please note: The reserved space for these workshops is NOT a computer lab. Please plan to bring your laptop. Laptops MAY be available to borrow from the library, but please check with the library on this: http://library.uncg.edu/
