Being named a Minerva Scholar is the highest recognition a doctoral or MFA student can receive at UNC Greensboro. Students are selected based on academic potential, record of achievement, and work/life experiences. This honorific gives you access to the Minerva co-curricular program that involves both cultural and professional development opportunities. Minerva Scholars are also guaranteed 75% of health insurance coverage, provided you select the UNCG graduate student health insurance plan. Minerva Scholars have first priority for additional health insurance support if funds become available. You will retain the Minerva designation throughout your graduate training at UNCG.
One of the hallmarks of our new Minerva Scholars program is the co-curricular activities we have planned. None of these events are compulsory, but we hope you will attend as many as you can. These events are only open to Minerva Scholars. The Graduate School will host a monthly Lunch & Learn where you will have the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a university, leadership training, grant writing, publishing, the tenure track, etc. The cultural side of your co-curricular program will involve concerts, museums, outdoor events, and other relaxing, community-building experiences.
